Course overview
The primary aim of the workshop is to explore colour relationships and paint application in portraiture. We will use the limited Zorn palette of just four colours, focusing on how to achieve convincing, naturalistic skin tones.
To allow more time for colour and paint handling, we will begin by tracing the outlines from a reference image. Participants who are more proficient in drawing will be encouraged to draw the outlines freehand.
We will work alla prima (wet in wet), aiming to complete the portrait in one session. We will use reference photos, either photographic portraits or reproductions of paintings.
All materials are provided. Bring your own brushes.
